Shepherd’s Pie originated in the sheep-raising areas of Scotland and then became popular in Northern England and Ireland (and then throughout the world!). Shepherd's Pie is basically a casserole with a layer of cooked meat and vegetables (including carrots, mushrooms, celery, and peas ), topped with mashed potatoes, and baked in the oven until the mashed potatoes are well browned. The original Shepherd’s Pie is made with lamb or mutton, but in the US, it is most often eaten with beef. We are sticking to the original and making it with ground lamb! It will be served with green beans on the side.
Ingredients: Ground lamb, onion, carrot, celery, mushroom, tomato paste, all-purpose flour, bay leaf, green beans, potatoes, butter, sour cream, whole milk, salt, black pepper, and olive oil.
