Suqaar ( pronounced sooh-car) is one of Somalia's most beloved dishes. Roughly translated in Arabic, suqaar means "small ones" and is basically a stir-fry of small pieces of meat and vegetables. The flavors and simple and reflect the Italian and Indo-British influence on this cuisine through the ample use of garlic, cumin, and turmeric. This dish will be accompanied by a Somalian rice pilaf called Barris. Bariis is basmati rice flavored with cinnamon, onion, cloves, and cardamom.
