Bhapa Shorshey Chingri translates to Steamed Mustard Shrimp. This is a quintessential Bengali dish that you will eat on special occasions. The shrimp is steamed in a black mustard seed paste, mustard oil, coconut, serrano peppers, and shredded coconut paste. This dish is a divine treat as it opens up your sinuses. The mustard is strong but mellowed down with cilantro and coconut. This dish comes with steamed rice and a side of spinach and ivy gourd sauteed in “paanch phoron, " a mix of fennel, nigella seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek, and cumin.
DO NOT drink fizzy water or aerated beverage with the shrimp dish, as the combination of mustard and fizzy water gives a burning sensation to your throat.
